The use of a metal reference electrode to measure potential difference in direct contact with the electrolyte around the structure may not make sense, but the reference zinc electrode in seawater is suitable for many applications. Successful samples have also been observed in the use of this electrode in the tanks bottom with the backfill, although many designs today use copper/ copper sulphate reference electrodes.

Zinc reference electrode is cheaper than silver/ silver chloride reference electrode and is used instead unless a high degree of stability is required. In addition, the mechanical stability of this type of electrode is much higher than other reference electrodes which have different and fragile components

High purity zinc ingots (minimum 99.9% with maximum iron content of 0.0014%) are used in the production of zinc reference electrodes. For connecting, a copper cable with chloride resistance coating and with 10 mm2 or 16 mm2 cross section is used and the cable is welded to the steel core inside the electrode. The interface between the copper cable and the steel rod is coated with epoxy resin.

MMO Coated cantilever anode are used to protect the surface of gigantic pump internals and condenser box where the sea water pass through in it. These anodes are use to protect the pump internals from erosion and corrosion with impressed current.

Reference electrodes are used in locations where a constant, stable reference where our anodes are installed with constant potential rectifiers.

Normally we can use wide variety of reference electrodes like zinc, silver chloride or copper sulfate reference electrodes for pump internal, condenser water box/vessel applications to monitor the cathodic protection anodes activeness.

MMO (Mixed Metal Oxide) coated rubberized disc anodes are used to protect the ship or hull from sea water corrosion. Normally Titanium having noncorrosive, but it contains nonconductive material. MMO coated will give the conductivity in titanium as per the application and amperage. Zinc reference electrode will be placed in particular distance as per the cathodic protection system to monitor the conductivity of the MMO coating disc.

Sea water is very corrosive environment because the salt present in it makes very good conductor of electricity. It creates a lot of free irons which accelerate oxidation of iron (mid steel) which made of oxidation.

When using MMO coated rubberized disc anode to protect the ship hull from sea water corrosion, external current are applied to convert high-potential anodic sites on a ship hulls to low-potential cathodic sites. This ensures the ship hull surface is protected from corrosion.

We can install MMO coated disc in the hull by passing DC current by a rectifier which will protect the ships life longer nearly 20 to 25 years depends upon the usage of the ship which afloat often.

MMO coated rubberized disc size well be customized depends upon the design of the CP system.

  • Ø  Durability compared to galvanic anode.
  • Ø  Demonstrate reliability.
  • Ø  Optimum documented corrosion production at minimum overall cost.
  • Ø  Anodes are lite, sturdy and compact for easy shipping, storage and installation.

Platinized FRP insulated strip for Cathodic protection of jetty piles and concrete structure in underwater

Platinized FRP insulated strip for Cathodic protection of jetty piles and monitored by zinc reference electrodes

Platinized Titanium anodes take advantage of the low consumption rate and high current density. Voltages in excess of 10 Volts will result in severe pitting of the titanium core causing premature failure. Exterior protection of ships hulls - anodes in the shape of plates, discs or strips

Platinized FRP insulated strip Anode with impressed current leads to protect the hull of the ships. Negative terminal which is connected to ship hull and positive terminal with impressed current anodes.

Underwater steel structures protection like wharves, jetties, sheet pile walls and piers. Usually rod type anodes distributed throughout the structure to be protected to give a good overall protective current distribution.

Change in the potential of an electrode as the result of current flow to or from that electrode. Also, a change in the potential of a corroding metal from its natural steady-state value, as a result of current flow. “Depolarization” is the reverse process of Polarization. Depolarization is sometimes referred to as "hypo polarization”.

MMO Coated ribbon anode and conductor bar for gigantic tank bottom protection

MMO Coated ribbon anode and conductor bar for gigantic tank bottom protection. The output of the ICCP system should be optimized to provide enough current to provide protection to the target structure. Some cathodic protection transformer-rectifier units are designed with taps on the transformer windings and jumper terminals to select the voltage output of the ICCP system. Cathodic protection transformer-rectifier units for water tanks and used in other applications are made with solid state circuits to automatically adjust the operating voltage to maintain the optimum current output or structure-to-electrolyte potential. For shore structures and other large complex target structures, ICCP systems are often designed with multiple independent zones of anodes with separate cathodic protection transformer-rectifier circuits.

Vessels, pipelines, condenser box and tanks which are used to store or transport liquids can also be protected from corrosion on their internal surfaces by the use of cathodic protection.  By passing the DC current through the cantilever which is coated with platinum or MMO (mixed metal oxide) the cathode will be protected and could be monitor by the reference electrodes.

Tiaano supplying anodes as per the customer design and as well as our own design.

A reference electrode must have specific electrical, physical and chemical properties. It must facilitate the measurement of accurate pipe/soil/reference electrode potentials on pipelines. It must ideally have a stability that is sustainable for years. For this to occur it should not be polarized by the very low electrical current that will flow in a measurement circuit. The potential should be measured with a high impedance multi-meter or voltmeter.

Reference electrode allows you to measure the potential of the working electrode without passing current through it while counter (auxiliary) electrode allows you to pass current. If oxidation occurs at the working electrode, reduction using the same magnitude of current is sustained at the counter electrode and hence there is no current flow between working and reference electrode(high input impedance) enabling us to follow changes in working electrode potential accurately. This is not possible in a two electrode system although we can get crude values by using certain types of electrodes which can act simultaneously as working and reference electrode.
