Mixed Metal Oxide Anode
Multipurpose Segmented Mixed Metal Oxide (MMO) ANODE
Ucorr® Multipurpose Segmented MMO (MSM) Anodes consist of multiple components made of Titanium (Ti). The surface of the anode, which reacts with the electrolyte (corrosive medium), is coated with a MMO layer. MMO coating specifications are selected depending on the conditions of the corrosive environments. The MMO coating can be applied to external component surfaces, internal component surfaces or both depending on the application and specific design requirements.
The components of MSM Anodes are designed to enable customization of anode arrangements that suit the application and the environment.
Advantages...
In accordance with all information provided in this document, the following are the advantages of utilizing MSM Anodes:
- Current output and resistance of groundbeds utilizing MSM Anodes can easily be adjusted based on design requirements.
- Significant reduction in land acquisition costs for anode groundbed construction.
- Reduced manpower requirements and costs associated with construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Reduced material requirements/costs including wiring, wire connections, vent pipes, etc.
-
Precision control of anode/anode groundbed resistance through customization of Parts No.’s 3 & 4 to achieve the desired system voltage.
In general, Ti anodes with MMO coatings are very sensitive to operating voltages above 12 V as the MMO coating begins to break down.
Therefore, precision resistance control is crucial to maintain desired operating voltages.
- Reduced stray current damage to adjacent structures.
-
MSM Anode cable connections are mechanically strong, which creates extremely secure electrical connections.
There are no restrictions regarding placement of Part No.’s 2a and 2b and therefore they can be installed at desired locations to minimize wire connection damage.
-
Minimized possibility of wire insulation damage as the anode current supply wire is securely installed within the wire receiver (Part No.’s 2a and 2b) and UPVC or PVC pipes.
Therefore, specialized wire insulation such as HMWPE, PTFE, PVDF, etc., is not required.
-
As displayed in Figure 2 and Figure 3, MSM Anode systems eliminate obstructions between the active surface of the anode and the electrolyte.
Additionally, the possibility of anode failure due to MMO coating breakdown is minimized compared to conventional anodes.
-
One secure electrical connection, as opposed to conventional anode groundbeds which may require numerous electrical connections, increasing the useful life of MSM Anode groundbeds.
- Minimized costs and issues related to design, implementation, and maintenance.
